Breaking Ground on PDCo Home

The big day is here! We broke ground and believe it or not, excavation for our home was done in less than two hours! It’s been a surreal experience to say the least. I thought breaking ground would be the thing that made this whole adventure feel “real,” but it’s definitely taking time for it all to sink in. I have found it comes in waves, where one moment we get allllll the butterflies and the next moment it feels like nothing happened. Regardless, we really are so grateful to be finally getting started and I can’t wait to share it all with you.

I’d also like to take a moment to share a bit about our contractor, Tim from Solo Homes Co. I’ve been following his family over on Instagram for a few years now. When I first started building my team of contractors for my projects, Tim was busy building his own home. Finally, last Fall when I was looking for a framer, Tim reached out (don’t you love Instagram!?). We ended up working on our first renovation together and I was super impressed with his work and the clients loved him! Now we are on our second renovation together and I couldn’t recommend him enough. I’m so grateful Tim and his team will be working on my personal residence! So be sure to give him a follow on Instagram and check out their website as well!

There isn’t a whole lot to say about the excavation process, but we got some great video shots of the beginning part of it! Part of the home will be over a crawl space, but we will have a partial basement as well. If you missed our post on the floor plans, you can go back and view them at this post. In the video below, you can see the crawl space being excavated:

Finley was pretty excited about our “field trip” to see the excavator. After they left, we ran around in the future basement area. Finley is very aware of what’s happening and sometimes I think is just as excited about building our home as I am!

The next step will be building the frames for the footings and getting those poured. We’re hoping to keep the rainy weather away so we can keep making progress. Then, we start building UP! Stay tuned!
